| Erin Hatfield from InsideToronto.com had her notepad and camera ready during the Kids, Cops & Computers launch at Parkdale Public school. She was there on hand to write about all the excitement that happens during KCC launches.
Here is an excerpt of the article she wrote:
"Tsomo Chomphel couldn't wait to get home and boot up her new laptop, listen to music by the likes Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez and, of course, work on her school work.
"I'm excited because sometimes me, my brother and my sister, we fight about the computer and who goes first, second or third," said 12-year-old Tsomo. "And now I have a laptop and I can play and do my homework all I want."
Tsomo, who lives in South Parkdale, is just one of a group of Grade 7 students at Parkdale Junior and Senior Public School who received a laptop from Merry Go Round Children's Foundation on Nov. 14 as part of the Kids, Cops and Computers program. Each year the Merry Go Round hands out hundreds of computers to children across Toronto."

Merry Go Round was recently featured in a blog post by Ellie Davis for its dedication to solving "the difficult situations of many people living in this city."
"Many of us cannot imagine life without a computer. There are hundreds of children whose parents simply cannot afford to purchase one — no matter how crucial being able to work with a computer is for their future. Fortunately, our thoughtful fellow citizens recognized how big of a problem not having access to a computer at home is, and in the name of Merry Go Round, try to fight it," reads the post. Inside Toronto reporter Justin Skinner speaks with Seph M. about his experience with the Kids, Cops & Computers program. You can read part of the story below or click here to see the full version on Inside Toronto.
Growing up with two brothers, eighth-grader Seph Marshall has often had a hard time getting on the computer to do school work. That changed when he was selected as the winner of a new computer through the downtown Toronto-based Merry Go Round Children’s Foundation. Merry Go Round’s Kids, Cops and Computers program pairs financially disadvantaged students up with volunteers from the Toronto Police Service, who teach them the ins and outs of Internet use, web safety and other skills. Seph was one of several children at Holy Family Catholic School to apply to the program and did not expect to be named one of the winners. |
