Kids, Cops & Computers Happenings
Installs have started!
It has been a busy summer for Merry Go Round! The first round of computer installations began last week and BIG smiles are everywhere. You can see one in the attached photo! Pictured here is a student from Lawrence Heights who recently received her new computer and printer. She is one of 200 students selected by their teachers and principals to become participants in the Kids, Cops & Computers program. We’ve been receiving a lot of positive and enthusiastic feedback from our computer installers, students and parents. Please keep the stories coming - we love hearing about the difference your computer is making!
Enjoy the rest of your summer and have fun getting to know your new computer! We’ll see you in the fall at your school’s “meet and greet” event, where you will be introduced to your Toronto Police Officer eBuddy!
If you have been selected as a participant in our 2010-2011 program and have not yet received your computer, we’ll be calling you over the next few weeks to set up an installation appointment.

Now you can add a comment to any of the articles on the Kids, Cops & Computers website. This includes the five articles showing on the home page (once you open them up to read them) and also under the Spotlight tab on the main menu you can click on "KCC Happenings" or "On the Web" tabs to read or add comments. You'll also see how many "hits" the article has had; meaning the number of times it has been viewed.
Our plan is to continue to enhance this site to allow our students, volunteer eBuddies, sponsors and friends to have their say. The more interactive we can make it we will.
At this time we are not requiring people to register to use the site so any guest can post a comment. Because of this we are moderating comments that are added. What this means is we will review comments before they are posted publicly. As a result, there may be a delay in your comment going "live".

Valley Park MS Launch
Picture this, the last day of school is June 29th and you think "school's out for summer". This group from Valley Park Middle School had to go back to school on June 30th for their launch hosted by Vice Principal Jason Hayter in the teacher's staff room.
When we asked the students if they minded coming back to school to learn more about the Kids, Cops & Computers program and complete the paperwork the consensus was definitely it was well worth it, especially when the computer arrives in the summer.
"Thank you very very much. You have no idea what this means to our family."- Parent
While waiting for everyone to arrive the conversation turned to World Cup soccer. It seems there are Brazil fans everywhere! Good luck to all the teams you are cheering for.
Enjoy your summer activities. We’ll see you in September at the “meet & greet” when we introduce you to your Toronto Police Officer eBuddy.

St Boniface Launch
The St. Boniface Catholic School launch took place at 11:30 AM on Monday, June 28th and was hosted by principal Peter Stachiw in the school library.
Mr. Stachiw addressed the students and their parents and relayed his positive experience working with the Kids, Cops & Computers program. He introduced Merry Go Round staff members (Sony and Heather) who then lead the students through a brief history of the Kids, Cops & Computers program, the program requirements, and answered questions from students and parents alike.
"This a great program. Students it is up to you to realize the full benefit."- Peter Stachiw, Principal
Although it was the second last day of school, a pop quiz was given to students about the program requirements, with all questions asked being answered correctly! The computer was finally revealed to gasps, ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ before we enjoyed a delicious pizza lunch courtesy of Pizza Nova.
Enjoy your summer and we’ll see you in September at the “meet & greet” where you’ll be introduced to your Toronto Police Officer eBuddy.

Fairbank MS Launch
Fairbank Middle School kids know how to have fun. What an energetic, bright group of students. Principal Lois Steward addressed the students and their parents saying "We are so grateful for the computers and delighted they are going to such a talented and keen group of students."
The computers at Fairbank Middle School were made possible by a very generous donation from York Rotary. Dwayne Chin was on hand to present each student with a congratulatory certificate while they had their picture taken. Dwayne brought greetings from his Rotary peers when he said "I'm delighted to be here representing Rotary and to see first hand the appreciation shown for receiving the new computers. Rotary is very proud to contribute to programs such as Merry Go Round's Kids, Cops & Computers as it is such a tangible, direct contribution to the community in which we live and work."

It is very rewarding to see the appreciation of the parents and the students who attended the launch on June 28th. With only one and a half days of school left excitement is running high, but not as high as when one student was heard to exclaim as he entered the room - "I won a free computer?!"
Well you didn't quite "win" a computer. First, you are selected by your teacher and Principal based on your need and your high learning potential. Secondly, as you heard from Ruth today, you have to E.A.R.N. the computer over the next year. This means regularly emailing your eBuddy, sending in two assignments completed on the computer, attending Kids, Cops & Computers events and sending in copies of your report cards through high school.
Enjoy your summer and we look forward to seeing you in September at the 'meet and greet' where you will be introduced to your Toronto Police Officer eBuddy.
