Merry Go Round Children’s Foundation Gives Toshiba Laptops a Whirl
Foundation to donate 300 new Satellite units to financially disadvantaged students
Markham, ON (September 15, 2011) – The Merry Go Round Children’s Foundation (MGR) and Toshiba of Canada announced today a joint effort to equip financially disadvantaged students with Toshiba Satellite C650 laptops. As part of the MGR Foundation’s Kids, Cops & Computers program, a program that seeks to level the playing field for disadvantaged youth, 300 Greater Toronto Area (GTA) students will receive a new laptop this year. The MGR Foundation provides youth in need with access to reliable computers and valuable mentoring by police officers in order to improve digital literacy and put students in contact with positive role models. Toshiba products were sought for the Kids, Cops & Computers program because of the company’s solid reputation as a technology innovator and manufacturer of quality laptops. “When looking for laptops for our Kids, Cops & Computers program durability and performance are our key considerations. We select units that are built to last, expecting that our students will have them from Grade 7 to Grade 12,” said Clayton Shold, Executive Director at MGR. “Toshiba has one of the best reputations for high quality, reliable products and that’s why we chose to work with them.” Since its inception in 1997, the MGR Foundation’s Kids, Cops & Computers program has provided more than 1,000 new computers to deserving students. This year’s laptop, the Satellite C650D, was selected from Toshiba’s new Fall 2011 line up and offers users essential tools and features for communication, homework and entertainment. Equipped with Microsoft Office Starter edition, the new Satellite C650 allows students to complete assignments without the hassle of having to go to a local library. “Every kid deserves the right tools for success,” said Mr. Ralph Hyatt, President, Toshiba of Canada Limited.”Our goal is to create the most reliable laptops on the market. I’m delighted that the MGR Foundation felt that Toshiba was the ideal partner for this initiative.” Merry Go Round Foundation The MGR Foundation was established in 1997 to level the playing field for financially disadvantaged kids and assist in breaking down barriers between youth and police.
